The “Introduction to Polo” lesson is exactly that; a two-hour introduction to the most exciting contact sport in the world. No riding experience is necessary and we supply the Coach, the polo pony and the safety equipment – all you have to do is enjoy yourself. Tuition is available all year round*.
The Polo School at Herts Polo Club is renowned for the quality of its teaching. Under the supervision of our Head Coach Martin State many of the Club’s members have been introduced to polo and have learnt the game. With a team of Coaches and thirty school ponies the Polo School runs all year round with lessons taking place during the week and at weekends. The “Introduction to Polo” lesson can be booked by an individual or by groups. The Club sells gift vouchers for the “Introduction to Polo” lesson and so if you aren’t brave enough to try it yourself why not buy it for a friend!
This two-hour lesson has been designed to give the polo novice a taste of the game and the skills required to play it. No riding experience is necessary. Our Coaches will teach you:
Stick Technique – Using either the wooden horse or polo boxes you will be taught the four basic polo strokes
Riding for Polo – The style of riding used in polo requires different skills to those used in other equestrian sports. You will be taught the basic aids and commands on one of our quiet and responsive polo ponies.
Following an explanation of the rules you will have an opportunity to “Stick & Ball” when you combine the riding and stick skills that you have learnt in your first mini chukka.
The cost of the “Introduction to Polo” lesson is £120.00 per person and includes the hire of your polo pony, hat and mallet. Gift vouchers are available. We advise guests to wear either jodhpurs or jeans, non-slip gloves such as golfing gloves and either riding boots or a boot with a similar heel. Trainers are not suitable.
Once you have completed your “Introduction to Polo” lesson and, inevitably, caught the polo bug there are a variety of tuition options available to you including courses of lessons, Instructional Chukkas and pony hire for tournaments. Please contact us to book your “Introduction to Polo” or to purchase a gift voucher.
“What a brilliant experience!
Felipe was a great coach and made the morning so enjoyable and considering I’d never ridden before to get up to a canter and stretching to hit the ball by the end of the session was just so exhilarating.” Fraser Wells
“I just want to say today on 25th November at 9.00 am I had my first polo lesson, and I loved it!!!!!! I want to thank the Club so much. I will definitely be coming back for more lessons” Josie Rogers
“Wow when my husband bought me a gift voucher for an “Introduction to Polo” lesson I was a bit nervous as I hadn’t ridden for 30 years but I loved it so much that I have now booked a course of lessons. Thank you all so much.” Sara James
“My wife bought our 14 year old daughter a gift voucher for the “Introduction to Polo” lesson for Christmas and I must admit I was somewhat sceptical – it sounded dangerous! I am delighted to have been proved wrong, the Coach Martin State was superb and very reassuring and my wife and I really appreciated his patience, obvious expertise and the friendly atmosphere of the Club so much so that I am seriously considering giving it a go myself!” Mr D. Michaels
